Growing on X
The best time to post on X (Twitter), and the best time to reply
What three 2025 and 2026 studies say about the best time to post on X (Twitter), how fast a post’s views fade, and why the best time to reply is the first hour.
Short answer: X doesn’t publish a best time to post. Three large studies from 2025 and 2026 agree on weekdays, Tuesday to Thursday most of all, and on Saturday as the weakest day. They disagree on hours: two point to mornings around 9 to 11 am local time, one to noon to 6 pm. For replies, the clock that matters is the post’s own: a 2023 study found a post’s views peak about a minute after it goes out, and half of them arrive within about 80 minutes. Reply in the first hour.
What the studies say
X gives no official time. The biggest studies come from companies that schedule posts for their customers, so each one measures its own users:
| Study | Sample | Best times, local | Weakest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social, March 2026 | Nearly 2 billion engagements, November 2025 to February 2026 | Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 6 pm | Saturday |
| Buffer, March 2026 | More than 8.7 million posts | Tuesday 9 am, Wednesday 9 to 10 am. Best day: Wednesday | Saturday, and 6 to 11 pm |
| Hootsuite, November 2025 | Over 1 million posts in 118 countries | Wednesday to Friday, 9 to 11 am | Before 5 am |
Where they agree: midweek beats the weekend, and Saturday is the slowest day in two of the three. Where they don’t: Buffer and Hootsuite say mornings, Sprout Social says midday into the evening.
Why the studies disagree
- They measure different people. Each counts its own customers’ posts, mostly brands, in its own mix of countries.
- They measure different things. Engagement rate, total engagements and views can each point to a different hour.
- Your readers keep their own hours. If most of your followers live eight hours away from you, a 9 am post lands at 5 pm for them.
So use the studies as a first guess, and your own numbers after that.
How fast a post fades
How long a post keeps getting views decides how much timing matters. The best measurement comes from researchers who watched more than 21,000 posts in January 2023:
the peak of impressions per second is 72 seconds after a Tweet was sent
They found that a typical post gets half of its first-day views within about 80 minutes, and that 95% of posts get no meaningful views after 24 hours. X’s 2026 code keeps the same short clock: it drops posts older than 48 hours from For You.
The best time to reply
The same numbers answer a different question. A post’s readers show up in its first hour or two, so a reply written then is in front of more of them. A reply written the next day is read by almost nobody.
Being early isn’t everything. X doesn’t sort replies by time: it puts first the replies the author answered from people the reader follows, then verified accounts, then everyone else, each group sorted by a model’s score. An early reply that says nothing still sinks. An early reply the author answers rises to the top.
What we’d do:
- Turn on notifications for a handful of accounts in your topic, so you see their posts as they go out.
- Reply in the first hour with something about the post.
- Spread your replies over the day. X’s limits page counts replies in half-hour windows, and 50 replies packed into one hour look like a burst. We explain why in Show probable spam.
Find your own best time
X’s own advice, written for ads, works for posts too:
Because of X’s real-time pace, testing different posts and targeting criteria is the best way to find out what works best for your business and individual audience.
Post at two or three different times for a few weeks, then compare the views and replies in your post analytics. Do the same for replies: note which ones brought followers, and when you wrote them.
Questions
What is the best time to post on X?
The large studies point to weekdays, especially Tuesday to Thursday, between about 9 am and noon in your readers’ time zone, with one study favoring noon to 6 pm. Your own analytics are the better guide after a few weeks.
What is the best day to post on X?
Wednesday, in Buffer’s 2026 study, with Tuesday and Thursday close behind. Saturday came last in two of the three studies.
What is the worst time to post on X?
Saturday, late evenings from about 6 to 11 pm, and the early morning before 5 am, depending on the study.
How long does a post on X get views?
Not long. In the 2023 study, a typical post got half of its first-day views within about 80 minutes, and 95% of posts got no meaningful views after a day.
Is it better to reply early on X?
Yes, in most cases, because most of a post’s readers see it in its first hour or two. A reply still needs to say something: X ranks replies by who wrote them and how readers respond, and time alone doesn’t move one up.
